Technology inspires us to think and do big. To Aspire to great things and it also gives us the tools with which to pursue that greatnesss. In our minds there is no excuse to sit in a corner complaining about the problems in the world. We have the tools that gives us at the very least the opportunity to make an effort!

While it is easy to dream big it can sometimes be challenging to fulfill those dreams without the financial backing to do so. Like many who are seeking to make a difference in the world we are faced with this very challenge. However we are choosing not to sit around and do nothing about it! We are blessed to live in a time where do it yourself fundraising programs like Indiegogo exist!!!

Indiegogo is one of those remarkable tools that allows us the possibility of realising the Africa LIVE!HD dream as we imagine it. What we want to do is simple but to accomplish it we need tools, we need personnel we need resources. Indiegogo affords us the opportunity to put out the call and ask our community of friends, friends of friends, fans and followers to support our journey!

Sixth Form Sisserou Singers On Demand is LIVE!

The Sixth Form Sisserou Singers performed a stellar show at the Arawak House of Culture in Dominica on July 6th. The Chorale presentations of everything from dance hall to classical and popular hits offered a bit of something for every musical taste.

The Show featured guest appearances by Choir alumni Asha Martin who did a sterling rendition of the Evita hit Don’t Cry for Me Argentina and a special appearance by the multitalented recording artist Nelly Stharre who performed one of her most loved hits Wake Up with the Choir!

The traditional Folk Section titled The Yellow Sensay was written and arranged by Choir Director and Founder Ms. Pearle O. Christian. The Yellow Sensay was a delightful musical feast and turned out to be filled with much anticipated drama and ‘tory!.

The show was thoroughly enjoyed by the audience inside the Arawak and we are certain you will also enjoy this wonderful musical journey that is VOICES!

It was a beat down but we made it to the finish line!

It’s now two days after d-day. We did go LIVE! Our first attempt wasn’t pretty- from audio challenges to shaky feeds, video challenges and ticket issues. It was tough but we saw it through the end. Thank you to our birthing partners, our early audience who kept us informed and helped us to do better.

The Sixth Form Sisserou Singers put on a remarkable show as expected. The audience inside the Arawak House of Culture was treated to a brilliant evening of diverse musical repertoire which was expertly and passionately performed!

Our online audience were justifiably frustrated were able to express their annoyance through our live facebook chat! It was hard for me to read those comments knowing that we were falling short of delivering what we promised and what they deserved, but their input kept us on our toes and helped us to step up our game. The first half of the show was riddled with audio issues, ticket headaches and video challenges. Thankfully the 2nd half settled down for the most part online audiences were able to enjoy got a vibrant folk drama as presented by the Sisserous!

We cringed but worked through it all. Our webcast team – the camera crew worked hard to provide the best view of the show. Yet sometimes despite one’s best efforts things can go wrong. I was humbled in so many ways throughout this project and feel that I have just had a real course in miracles. We battled some potentially crippling challenges yet I can honestly say that through the Grace of God – Universal Mother- (manifested through friends, family and sometimes total strangers) ALL things indeed ARE possible!

For me personally the biggest goal of this project besides seeing it through the end despite its many challenges was to connect people of African Descent from around the globe. That was accomplished in a fashion! We had viewers from as far away as Cyprus to, but most heart warming for me was that the mother of 2 of the Sisserou Singers was able to watch her daughters perform all the way in Cameroon.

AfricaLIVE! HD was built to unite Africans the world over- to allow us to see each other and learn about each other! We will continue to do all that it takes to make this a reality! Click the link below to learn more on the series.

Toronto Screening Event Cancelled. Efforts Will Focus on Webcast

Both the Black Chick Group and the Commonwealth of Dominica Association agree that in light of our limited resources and the inherent financial challenge and risk related to hosting a live screening of a foreign production, and as well, to maximize exposure of the event to the broader Dominican Diaspora, that it would be better to focus all efforts on a webcast originating out of Dominica. We invite your support to get as many Diaspora Dominicans and friends of Dominicans the world over to tune in to www.africalivehd.com and watch the webcast collectively. This is in an effort to maximise fundraising efforts for the chosen charities. While it was a tough decision to cancel the planned live cinema event, we feel that it’s a great opportunity for families to get together and celebrate and share the best of Dominica’s culture in an a manner that is affordable, convenient and accessible.

The Live Webcast will begin at 7pm eastern and will feature the Nature Island Green Carpet Pre-show hosted by popular Dominica news correspondent and producer Tarnia Green. The Sixth Form Sisserou Singers will take to the Arawak House of Culture stage at 8pm.

A Queen’s Ransom

Dominica’s Sixth Form Sisserou Singers is peopled by men and women who are all very accomplished in their own right. Today we feature a star who is a Beauty Queen and so Much More!

The lovelee Ms. Leandra Lander is a multiple crown winning queen with 4 prestigious titles to her name. Her journey in pageantry started with a 1st runner-up win at Miss Teen Dominica 2009. Her sights were always set on first prize however and Ms. Lander took Dominica by storm with her crowd stealing performance in the 2007 Carnival Queen presentation. She went on to capture the title,and also swept the Caribbean winning 3 other titles during her reign, including the Miss Carival in St. Vincent. Miss Jaycees Caribbean in Antigua and Miss Caribbean Culture in Nevis.

Ms. Lander is much much more than a beauty queen however, she recently completed her Bachelors of Education in Geography at the University of the West Indies Mona Campus. While on campus she served as the PRO for Mary Seacole Hall and was awarded Student of the Year 2012 – Mary Seacole Hall; she was also cited for Excellent contribution for Hall Life 2010- 2012 and won the prestigious Leslie Robinson Award for Leadership in 2011 .

In addition Leandra acts as the Choral Speech Director at Dominica’s Convent High School where she taught from 2004- 2009 and will start teaching there again this coming September. She is also the holder of the Division of Culture award for Contribution to Pageantry and a recipient of the National Youth Council Award for Culture.

We are overwhelmed by the talent and drive of this remarkable woman who in addition to all of the above now acts as the Public Relations Officer for the Sixth Form Sisserou Singers. She is passionate, warm, charismatic and has an absolutely beautiful smile. Indeed a true Sisserou Star!
